Good morning to all Whisperers and Roarers alike! Happy Valentine’s Day!
Now, before you go and get all sour on us, remove the lemon and accompanying pucker face. Bear with us for a moment.
We all know that Valentine’s Day is a made-up holiday. One of the Hallmark kinds but who doesn’t love a good Hallmark movie? They’re corny and cheesy, but when there’s nothing else to watch on a lazy Sunday afternoon, they become a guilty pleasure. C’mon...admit it, we eat it up.
We’re thinking of one of our favorite holiday movies, Love Actually, and the opening words spoken by Hugh Grant as The Prime Minister. He says, “It seems to me that love is everywhere.” Often, it’s not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it’s always there – fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as we know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge – they were all messages of love. If you look for it, we’ve got a sneaky feeling you’ll find that love…actually is…all around.
Here’s the long and short.
Love is something we Love to Love. Something we Hate to Love and something we Love to Hate.
And like those Hallmark films it, too, can be corny and cheesy at times but we love it.
We love, Love!
We challenge you to find love today. Call your best friend, your partner, your spouse, your mother or father, grandmother or grandfather, your children if it applies; heck, tell it to the grocer or the mailman or the next telemarketer that rings your line if that’s what works for you. Spread love today and every day thereafter, but start today. Your heart will thank you, along with those you shared said love with.
Because the thing is, love influences our art. It permeates our creative process. Your words, photographs, and drawings - they are all soaked in love, dyed by it in some way. Whether it is a current love, a hope for the future, or a love lost, it is one of the most influential forces on the planet.
And the best part - love as an experience is unique to everyone, which can inspire some pretty stunning art.
Now tell us, because we want to know!
Who do you love?
What do you love?
How does love influence your work?
Most of all, Happy Valentine’s Day. Today, of all days, love a little bit too hard.
